Helston Animation Festival

As part of our voluntary work at the Museum of Cornish Life this month, we Citizen Curators met with Louise Fox, Festival Director of the Cornwall Film Festival.

Our brief was to suggest ways of interpreting the Museum's collections that Louise could then select films to align with for the upcoming Animation Festival to be held at the Museum over February Half Term.

We fed in  a series of ideas around the wok we have been doing on the collections which would be shown on a large screen in the Drill Hall.

The theme we suggested were:
  • fishing & farming
  • rocks and the landscape
  • saving lives
  • invention
  • fashion
Louise then sent a series of films related to these topics and we fed back thoughts on them before they were used on a loop for the event. My favourite was the stop-motion Oscar nominated short Lost n' Found, which you can watch at:  https://youtu.be/35i4zTky9pI - this tied in beautifully with the lifesaving theme.

As part of the reflection on this project I felt that the loop on the film was too long at over an hour and  it would be better to edit the films down to our original brief of 30-40 minutes next time around.
